Okay, I knew, because I remember making popcorn on the stove when I was about four. Just the other day my mother-in-law told me they make popcorn on the stovetop - pour in a little oil, the kernels, and there you have it - popcorn! I made a few discoveries:
1) As she told me, it's healthier, or at least more "natural" than microwave popcorn that contains all sorts of strange grease!
2) It's cheaper! Yes, we like cheaper, healthier food! You can buy a bag of popping kernels for the same price you can buy lots of boxes of popcorn, and you get more bulk out of it! Just like our discovery that we can eat oatmeal every morning and pay $3 for a box that lasts weeks instead of $3 for an unhealthier box of cold cereal that lasts days.
3) Popping popcorn on the stovetop is fun! Just read the instructions on the bag of kernels, pour olive or cooking oil in the pan and put in one little kernel, heat it up, and when that little guy pops, fill the bottom of the pan with kernels. Shake it around over the heat, and when it stops popping, you're done! Pour on your butter, salt, parmesan cheese, or whatever makes you happy, and you have a fun, relatively healthy, cheap snack!

Ha ... like discovering gold. :o) That is how we cooked pop corn growing up. You have inspired me to try it again.
Enjoy!

This is one of Uncle Barron's trademarks...popping corn over the stove. He does it regularly for us...I love it! glad you've discovered it, too. We like Orville R's the best. Also, have you tried the steel cut oats? Quaker puts out some in a round canister or there are other more expensive varieties. They are even better than the regular oatmeal. It takes a while to cook but it reheats very nicely, so we make up a biiigggg pot of it and then put it into smaller containers. In the morning, pull out the amount you want to eat (I put a few raisins in the bowl first and cover with the oatmeal), add a little milk and zap it in the micro and it tastes like it was just made. Very yummy on a cold morning when you're in a hurry. Love Aunt M
Aww, you found me. I couldn't remember how to find you on here so I am so happy you found me instead! So happy for this grand new adventure you are taking!
Thanks for the directions. I'll have to try this sometime...have never tried it on the stove! :)
Thanks Aunt Betsy! I love it on the stove!!
