Winter

This has been quite a winter - SO COLD - and snowy in a lot of places, with the occasional snow here that is normally rare in central NC.

When I was a kid I loved winter! I think this was because I associated winter with beautiful snow that I could play in, I didn't have to worry about going to work, and school would be canceled. Friends could get snowed in at our house, and we would go sledding and build snowmen until we couldn't take any more of the cold, then we'd come inside to a fireplace and hot drinks, and we could curl up with a book and a blanket. Okay, at least that's how I remember it! :)

As an adult, I still love a good snowstorm, but winter is no longer my favorite season. I think I prefer the other three! It's dark and cold, and it's hard to feel happy or optimistic! For me these days winter means long days in a cubicle at my job, coming and going in the morning and evening and barely seeing daylight. It means still going to work even if there is snow on the ground. It also means constantly trying to stay warm and wanting to hibernate! Brr, I'm ready for spring time to come.

No wonder Song of Solomon chapter 2 describes springtime so beautifully - it's something to look forward to and enjoy!

11 See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.

I'm so glad spring will come again.
