I first learned of this series from the other Chix on this blog. I bought a couple of DVDs for my nieces & nephews on Mike’s side, and the kids and parents loved them so much that they bought the entire series. One day Mike and I invited our youngest niece to go somewhere with us, and she declined – her main reason was that she didn’t want to miss watching What’s in the Bible with her family!
I also gave a couple of the DVDs to the kids who I nanny for. The kids and I spend many hours together in their minivan, waiting in drop-off and pick-up lines, driving distances in the DC area, and these kids have enjoyed watching What’s in the Bible. (Well, they enjoyed it until their DVD player broke with one episode of this series on repeat indefinitely. We’ve moved onto audio books now!)
I love the way that this series helps kids learn Bible history at a young age. My fellow Chix and I all attended the same Christian college, where we were required to take college courses about the Old and New Testament. I feel pretty sure that if I had watched What’s in the Bible prior to or during those classes, I would have done much better on my exams! Because learning Bible history from a puppet with a sense of humor is much more engaging than listening to a professor with a PowerPoint presentation.
What’s in the Bible was created by Phil Vischer, the guy who created Veggie Tales, and not only does he use eye-catching puppets and a fast-moving pace to tell kids about the Bible, he throws in humor that has me laughing out loud.
If your family doesn’t own a copy of What’s in the Bible, I highly recommend that you get one from your local Christian bookstore, Amazon, or the What’s in the Bible website.
