Hey Betsy, I Want to Write A Book...

Hey Betsy, I want to write a book, and I thought I'd ask you how. That's a question I get often, so here's the answer:

1) Writing a book and actually finishing it and publishing it is hard work, yet it's so fulfilling! Writing is my creative outlet, free therapy, a challenge that motivates me, and most of all, it benefits others.

2) Now more about the hard work: you must actually sit down and write - often. You must get feedback from others. If you choose to publish independently, there are many steps to take in order to publish and promote your work. However, if you pursue traditional publishing, you'll need to submit book proposals, stay on top of deadlines, work with your editor, and still promote your own book.

3) Don't let fear stop you. That was a big one for me - I began writing books by telling my own story of an infertility struggle, and I strongly felt that I should go ahead and publish it before having a "happy ending" of a baby. Terrified to share my personal business in a publication, I still moved forward, and my first book has helped countless people who are struggling with infertility.

4) Where to begin? What to do? Sit down and write. Take your idea and begin writing your story, outlining your plan, and simply getting words on paper. You can overcome writers' block and other hurdles you encounter along the way. You'll need input from others, and your work will need to be edited. You'll discover many publishing options, and you'll need to make a lot of decisions. While you're writing and after your book is printed, you'll have to promote it, so you should be building an audience now, and engaging with them for years to come.

Those messages asking me about writing and publishing are why I compiled my thoughts in one place - a reasonably short book! More than a self-help book or a writing textbook, Write Your Story: Straightforward Steps for (Finally) Writing and Publishing Your Book is intended to be a blueprint or a map for you to guide you as you write your own story. I keep the price quite low - if you're a Kindle user or have a Kindle app, grab it today! Amazon is user-friendly if you want a paperback. You can also purchase it by request at Barnes & Noble. Where to start? This book will get you started, offer perspective on the writing and publishing process. Read it and then send your questions my way!

Hi, I’m Betsy, married to Mike since 2008, delighted that our long-awaited baby girl has joined us in 2018. We live in the Washington, D.C. area. We enjoy exploring new cities together on foot and doing life as a team. My first book, Embracing Hope During Infertility is intended to infuse hope into your heart! Seasons: A Picture Book, although written for children, can point readers of all ages toward the goodness of God, even in the darkest times. This year I published Write Your Story for new authors or people who dream of writing a book. I hope that it helps you finish writing publishing your own book as well. Thanks so much for reading this post!
