Way back in the beginning, Genesis says that the earth without form. It was empty, and barren.
Then He created light - and He saw that it was good.
Then He formed the earth and sky and water, and He called it good.
After that He made plants, and He thought they were good.
Next, God created the sun and moon and stars, and He declared them to be good.
Sea creatures and birds were His next work of art, and again, He said that they're good.
So then He created animals and bugs, and called them good.
Finally, God created man and woman, and gave them authority over all of His creation, and He told them to make more humans, and He called the people He created good.
When God looked at His creation, piece by piece, day after day, He declared His goodness. He called His works of art good. His creation is good! The goodness of God is woven throughout all of creation!
I should be able to take one look at the succulent growing tall in my windowsill, or look at the stars in a clear night sky, or examine my baby's cute little toes, and see the goodness of God. I should even be able to see His goodness in my own toes! We don't need to look very far to see creation, and God's creation reflects His goodness.
God established a pattern as He laid the foundation of the world - He called it good. Not only can we look at creation to see His goodness, we can also look at the work He is actively doing inside our hearts, in our lives, and in people around us, and we can see good.
The earth is filled with the goodness of God.
Surely His goodness and mercy are following us all of the days of our lives (Psalm 23).
