Somewhere around the time that scene caught my eye, I read a novel by Kristin Billerbeck (and I don't even remember the title). The main character is 31 years old and single, and she's part of a singles group in her church that she affectionately calls The Reasons. She calls them this because she sees the oddities and quirks among her friends - the reasons that all of her peers are still single.
It's all about perspective. Do you see yourself as a “reason” and just focus on the “reasons” you aren’t married? (Even those of us who are married still have quirks or issues that are “reasons.”) Or do you see yourself as a treasure, an undiscovered treasure? If you are married, how do you see your single friends? Do you see them as Reasons? Or do you treat them as Treasures - encouraging them and building them up?
I try to encourage my single friends to 1) not give up on the pursuit of marriage and 2) to live life fully while they wait. Here are a handful of resources that are worth checking out if you're needing some extra encouragement this Valentine's week:
Landa Loring just released another powerful spoken word called "Worth the Wait." If you're still waiting for a spouse, let her words encourage you to stand strong in your wait. You are worth it!
Two books I wish I had read when I was single are:
Remember the Roses: How to Hold Out, Hang On, and Marry the Man of Your Dreams by Lynette Lewis
andDateless Not Dead: Living Fully Alive in the Single Life by Jennifer Hand
Each of these books share stories, encouragement, and hope with Christian women who are single longer than they expected. Grab a copy! (PS These are not affiliate links - they're simply books I'm glad I read.)- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
